Autism Color Run/Walk in West Plains and Willow Springs: A Day of Impact, Inclusion, and Community

This past weekend, our communities in West Plains and Willow Springs came together for something truly special. With over 200 registrations, dozens of volunteers, and families showing up in full color, our Autism Color Run/Walk was more than just a race—it was a celebration of inclusion, support, and connection.

What is the Autism 5K Color Run/Walk?

The Autism Color Run/Walk 5K is a family-friendly event designed to bring our community together in support of children with autism and their families. Participants start in white and move through color stations along the course, creating a fun, welcoming experience for all ages and abilities.

Beyond the fun, the event also serves as a fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations that support children and families in our community. In 2025, proceeds were donated to the Willow Springs YMCA and the Mountain Grove Abili-T-Ball program. This year, funds raised will benefit the West Plains Boys & Girls Club and Willow Springs Charitable Events.

Why Events Like This Matter:

For many families, finding spaces where their child feels comfortable, included, and celebrated can be difficult. Events like the Autism Color Run create an opportunity for connection, understanding, and support for children, as well as for parents and caregivers. It also creates space for something just as important: sharing resources and building awareness within our community. Bringing together families, local businesses, and community members around a meaningful cause helps strengthen connections in a way that goes beyond day-to-day interactions and transactions.

Willow Springs, MO Autism Color Run/Walk

The Willow Springs Autism Color Run/Walk kicked off at 9 AM near the city pool, and the positive, uplifting energy was felt from the very beginning. Upbeat music, motivational signage along the route, sponsor recognition throughout the course, and “cheerleaders” along Old Rolla Road created an encouraging and fun experience for everyone involved. Refueling stations were also set up along the route, offering water and Gatorade to help keep participants refreshed along the way.

West Plains, MO Autism Color Run/Walk

The West Plains Autism Color Run/Walk kicked off at 2 PM in the Children’s Behavioral Services parking lot across from the Civic Center, bringing a strong start to the afternoon. Participants picked up their event shirts, gathered with friends and family, and set out on a route that moved through the heart of downtown West Plains.

From start to finish, the course was full of momentum. Color stations, sponsor shoutouts, and enthusiastic volunteers kept the excitement building, while refueling stations offering water and Gatorade helped participants stay refreshed and ready to take on each mile.

The Impact We Are Making Together

Because of the incredible support from our community, this year’s Autism Color Run brought together over 200 participants and nearly 30 volunteers across both locations.

Beyond the numbers, the impact is something we’re truly proud of. The funds raised through this event will directly support organizations that are making a difference for children and families right here in our community, including the West Plains Boys & Girls Club and Willow Springs Charitable Events.

Final proceeds will be announced the week of April 27. We are so grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, and every individual who showed up, participated, and supported this event. It takes a community to create opportunities like this, and we’re proud to be part of one that continues to show up in such a meaningful way.
